Jennis Morse Etlinger – Why You Should Care About C.A.R.E.

Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) provides opportunities for volunteers to address middle school, high school and college age kids about the best practices and pitfalls regarding their credit in an attempt to start them off on the right path. It was created in 2002 by John C. Ninfo, II, retired bankruptcy judge, and now boasts 55 nationwide chapters including eight in Florida. The Tampa chapter in particular was launched in 2007 by Rodney May, retired bankruptcy judge, who has passed the torch to Judges Catherine Peek McEwen and Michael Hooi. If you have a connection with a school or youth organization who could benefit from a presentation (free and approximately one hour long), or, if you would like to volunteer as a presenter, please contact the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association’s liaison Daniel Etlinger at detlinger@jennislaw.com or (585) 733-9792. Bankruptcy News

President Biden has signed into law the Bankruptcy Threshold Adjustment and Technical Corrections Act. The legislation extends the $7.5 million debt limit for Sub-chapter V bankruptcies retroactive to March 27, 2022, the previous sunset date for the increased debt cap. The act also corrects another problematic Sub V eligibility provision that arguably prohibited many entities with any affiliate entity relationship (sister companies, parent entities) from filing a Sub V case. Stay tuned for a follow up blog post regarding the recent Act from JME.
